The “Asian diamond” sculpture, inspired by the Persian leopard, was made by Majid Meibodi on pine wood over a period of more than three years by combining the three arts of sculpting, mosaic work, and intricate marquetry. Iron pieces are inserted into the sculpture’s body to maintain balance. One million pieces of locally sourced walnut, white poplar, and poplar wood are cut into hair-like shapes, woven together, and then embedded and glued on the sculpture. The nose is carved from aged black walnut, the mustache from white poplar wood, and the eyes from two jujube wood pieces. Traditional designs are etched between the strands of hair and rosettes using various tools. The sculpture weighs about 55kg without its base, and the base itself, made from a venerable plane tree, adds 30kg to the overall weight. The sculpture also measures 182cm in length, matching the size of the actual leopard.
