Toktam Fazel completely handcrafted the silver necklace “Dolat e Eshgh” (Love's Kingdom) by designing a verse from a poem by Rumi, which reads“ I was weeping, I became laughter, I was dead, I became alive. The kingdom of love came and I became the eternal kingdom” in broken Nastaliq script on 36.5 gram silver and then carving it with a fretsaw using the latticework technique.
Through the Cloisonné technique, this square pendant from the “Iranian Garden” collection, is adorned with geometrical divisions. The artist has employed a two-layer technique to breathe life into this piece. In this technique, the four sentences of the first stanza were placed separately in the four corners, while the second stanza was etched upon the first layer in the form of an eight-pointed star. These two layers are combined to form the main design by using various bases and stacking them slightly apart. Four birds made of gold(1.5 grams gold of carat 18) are carved out and fused onto the top layer of the square’s four corners. In her works, these birds are called the bird of a thousand voices, the bird of sight, the bird of gratitude, and the bird of flight. All the phases, including welding, buffing, filling, and niello, had been completed by Toktam Fazel and Bahram Dashtinezhad. Then, Mahmood Azizi graced this creation with four turquoise stones. If necessary, wash this necklace with warm water and hand-washing powder. Furthermore, avoid rubbing grease or perfume on the stones.
